North Florida is mainly in Zone 9a (shown in light green color in our map below), with some northern border areas in Zone 8b. This region experiences the coolest temperatures in Florida and can have occasional freezes during winter months.

2. Zone 9a
Shown in a lighter shade of green color on our map, Zone 9a covers much of northern Florida and extends into the central part of the state. With average annual minimum temperatures between 20°F to 25°F (-6.7°C to -3.9°C), this zone covers a significant portion of the panhandle and north-central Florida. Some of the notable cities in this zone are Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Jacksonville.
3. Zone 9b
The yellow colored area on our map, Zone 9b stretches across central Florida and parts of the northeast coast. This zone experiences average annual minimum temperatures from 25°F to 30°F (-3.9°C to -1.1°C). It includes cities such as Tavares, Tampa, and Daytona Beach, making it a transitional zone between the cooler north and the warmer south.

Zone 10a, shown in purple color on the map, covers a large portion of central and southern Florida. With average annual minimum temperatures between 30°F to 35°F (-1.1°C to 1.7°C), this zone includes areas around Lake Okeechobee and extends to both the east and west coasts. Some key cities in this zone are Orlando, Davenport, Vero Beach, and Melbourne.
5. Zone 10b
Represented by a darker shade of purple on our map above, Zone 10b cover much of southern Florida, including the southern tip of the peninsula. This zone experiences average annual minimum temperatures from 35°F to 40°F (1.7°C to 4.4°C). Major cities in this zone include Pompano Beach, some parts of Fort Lauderdale, and Naples.

Zone 11a, shown in a deep blue color, is primarily found along the southeastern coast of Florida and in some southern coastal areas. With average annual minimum temperatures between 40°F to 45°F (4.4°C to 7.2°C), this zone includes tropical regions such as Miami Beach, Key Largo, and parts of the Hollywood.

The warmest zone in Florida, 11b, is shown in a light blue color on the map above, it covers the Florida Keys.
