What are the 4 planting zones in New Jersey?

1. Zone 6b
This zone, shown in dark blue color on the map, covers the northwestern corner of New Jersey. With average annual minimum temperatures ranging from -5°F to 0°F (-20.6°C to -17.8°C), it represents the coldest region in the state. Zone 6b covers the higher elevation areas of the Appalachian Mountains in New Jersey. Some of cities in this zone include Newton, Sparta, and Hackettstown.
2. Zone 7a
Zone 7a, depicted in a lighter blue shade in our map above, extends across much of northern and central New Jersey. This zone experiences average annual minimum temperatures between 0°F to 5°F (-17.8°C to -15°C). It covers a significant portion of the state, including the New York City suburbs and parts of the Delaware River Valley. Some of major cities in this zone include Princeton, Morristown, and New Brunswick.
3. Zone 7b
Represented by the green areas on the map, Zone 7b covers most of central and southern New Jersey, including the coastal regions. With average annual minimum temperatures ranging from 5°F to 10°F (-15°C to -12.2°C), this zone covers a large part of the state’s agricultural areas. Some of the cities in Zone 7b are Allenwood and Camden.
4. Zone 8a
The warmest zone in New Jersey, 8a, is shown in yellow color on the map and is primarily found in the southernmost tip of the state and along parts of the Atlantic coast. This zone experiences average annual minimum temperatures between 10°F to 15°F (-12.2°C to -9.4°C). It includes popular coastal destinations and have some of the mildest winter conditions in the state. Notable areas in this zone include Cape May, Atlantic City, and Wildwood.
